We are licensed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to undertake non-contentious probate work.
Although not universally available through accountants, MG Group is licensed by the ICAEW to carry out non-contentious probate work. This specialism has proven to be the perfect complement to our other Private Client Services and our work on personal tax returns, as well as work carried out on trusts and estates.
As a trusted professional adviser, we will have much of the financial and historical information on our files, which will reduce the workload for the family at a very stressful time. It also means that processing the application through to Grant of Probate will prove simpler and quicker and result in cost savings as there will be no duplication of information between two different advisers.
Our Probate service
We provide a complete probate service, starting with informing HMRC, completing any outstanding tax returns, applying for the grant of probate, settling any inheritance tax due and accounting for all the assets of the deceased and distribution of the assets in accordance with the terms of the Will. We also prepare estate accounts for the executors to approve.
We will manage the administration period too, and will complete any tax returns necessary during the period of administration.
The length of time that a probate case will take depends on the complexity of the case. We would typically expect to complete a straight forward probate case within 9 to 12 months after the date of death.
Our fees
Our fees are based on the time spent on the work and the seniority of the staff involved. The “charge out” rate of our staff is as follows:
- Directors – £240 + VAT per hour
- Manager – £200 + VAT per hour
- Probate senior – £150 + VAT per hour
The total fees payable will depend on the complexity of the estate and the services that we are engaged to undertake. Because all probate cases are different, it is difficult to provide an indicative total fee. However, once we know the full scope of the work you require we should be able to provide an indication of the likely fees to be charged.
Our team
We have built up strong expertise and assembled a team of talented and qualified practitioners under the guidance of the Managing Director, Gavin Fernandes, and the Personal Tax Manager, Eileen Kinnear. We will work closely with you and your family and ensure that the process is dealt with quickly and efficiently, taking much of the stress out of an already difficult situation.
